So they demolished actual historic buildings to build a car park for a new building about a building they demolished.... the irony is strong as destroying the bunkers below.. now that it's 2024 is sadly supporting a genocidal regime along side the US.

Americans, as you can tell by the comments below, loved the General Walker, Germans try, without success to erase their history. I stayed there a couple of times in the late 80's and did the standard tourist things. My father went thru the area in 1945-48. He didn't care much for it. Niemal vergessen.

Amazing constructions and most probably many many men died in the making of these bunkers. I don't understand why the Eagles Nest and the concentration camps are places you can visit and yet the bunkers are blocked up. Surely they would be a very interesting place to see and would bring economy and an appreciation of the history to the area. Also they could one day be useful again as air raid bunkers or storage facilities.

The shooting rage seems to be over designed. I look like they could use a target at 25 yards and 50 yards on the 100-yard range more cost effectively than excavating all three tunnels. Even though that was probably built with slave labor, the concrete and rebar was not free..

Brilliantly detailed and interesting, thank you so much. I don't understand why the bunker system has now largely been sealed off, this is living history and an amazing piece of engineering, so important to remember the doubtless countess lives lost and backbreaking work of men in the creation of these tunnels. Why not have a museum entrance with finds from the bunker system then clean and reinstall the pumps etc and have the entire system open for everyone to see. I don't feel this would a glorification of the Nazis but a chance to witness history just as you may visit a castle which was at some point in history used for defence.

So that every generation ahead, that wishes and needs to, is able to visit these structures and see for themselves, what happened, how it happened, and with what immense structures, the Nazi's prepared themselves in order to rule the globe. By advancing Hitler's programs. It seriously needs to be harbored, maintained, and made ready for public inspection and education.
